CCGA Obtains $887,000.00 for New SAR Initiatives

The Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary will receive $887,000.00 from the National Search and Rescue Secretariat over a two-year period. The funding will allow the Auxiliary to realize two important projects:

CCGA Training Equipment ($552,000.00)

This NIF proposal includes equipment such as Water Rescue Manikins, Pocket CPR Units, CPR Face Masks and Defibrillators.

The CCGA is also looking at equipping some of its units with Class B Automatic Identification Systems (AIS) for SAR purpose. These systems will help JRCC to locate CCGA units and allow Rescue Centers to easily identify and task units nearest to the incident.

Search and Rescue Learning System ($335,000.00)

The Search and Rescue Learning System will allow the CCGA to design and implement an online training system for the volunteers of all CCGA regions across Canada.

The system will allow individual volunteers or groups of volunteers to work through a comprehensive online system of modules and interactive tutorials on the Internet, or through local installation where internet is not available.
